The problem:
This Vector customer understood that to stay competitive in the global container shipping industry, the company needed to upgrade the system it used to offload and track customers' cargo shipments. Like many, this company had been operating in a world of paper - processing forms, invoices and bills of lading by hand.
The solution:
The company came to Vector Resources to engineer and install an integrated, wireless, OCR-camera based container inventory network. Cameras mounted atop tall power poles now scan and read each cargo container as it's offloaded by massive cargo cranes. The video data is transmitted seamlessly via "wireless bridge" - a dedicated connection between the pole-mounted cameras - and secure wireless access points that are not mounted atop each cargo crane. To complete the electronic information loop, the access points transmit the video images to the company's Terminal Operating System, which responds back to the crane operators with precise information about where each cargo container should be stored on the massive 152-acre site. This instantaneous exchange has drastically reduced the time, effort and cost once required to accurately and securely account for customer shipments.
